Jail threat for council tax debt to end

Non-payment of council tax will no longer lead to a prison sentence from April 2019, the Welsh Government has announced.

Cabinet Secretary for Finance Mark Drakeford called sanctions of imprisonment 'an outdated and disproportionate response' and that the Welsh Government would work with local authorities to introduce new measures.

The announcement follows a consultation on abolishing jail terms for council tax debt.
