Mark Drakeford and Vaughan Gething both chose today to launch their bids to be the next Welsh Labour leader

Two of the candidates vying to be the next Welsh Labour leader are officially launching their bids today.

Health Secretary Vaughan Gething and Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford are both holding launch events today setting out their vision for the future of Wales.

Mr Gething, who represents Cardiff South and Penarth, visited Coleg Y Cymoedd in Nantgarw making several policy pledges including:

  • ending holiday hunger

  • abolishing tuition fees for care leavers

  • creating a national care service

  • supporting a People's Vote

  • transforming the approach to tackling poverty.

Cardiff West AM Mark Drakeford launches his event at the Dusty Forge community centre in Cardiff. Mr Drakeford drew on his time working with former First Minister Rhodri Morgan, describing himself as a '21st Century Socialist.'

The third candidate, Welsh language minister Eluned Morgan is expected to launch her bid later this week.
