Price says Welsh independence 'must be on the table'
Speaking on the first morning of his party’s annual conference in Cardigan, newly elected leader Adam Price has warned Wales is living in the dying days of the British state.
“With Brexit threatening a constitutional crisis - with or without a deal - we must do everything within our power to safeguard Welsh nationhood," he said.
He continued: "Only by taking our future into our own hands can we ensure that our country isn’t swallowed into an ‘England-and-Wales’ entity where we are at the mercy of Westminster.
“A Plaid Cymru government would put a Welsh Independence Referendum Act on the statute book at the earliest possible opportunity enabling us to call that referendum by the end of the decade at the latest, or earlier should there be a material change in the UK's constitutional landscape."
Mr Price will make his first conference speech since winning the party's leadership election this afternoon.
Reacting to Mr Price's speech, Welsh Conservative leader Paul Davies branded him as 'hypocritical.'
