Paul Davies has been named as the new Welsh Conservatives leader - wining with 68.1% of the vote.

He will now head the Senedd's second biggest party after beating out Suzy Davies, who got 31.9% of the vote.

Both candidates put themselves forward after the sudden resignation of Andrew RT Davies at the end June after leading the party for seven years.Davies said he looks forward to working with his opponent Suzy Davies:

Suzy Davies, the AM for South Wales West, said she was disappointed by the result, but pledged her support for the new leader:

Paul Davies said he would do all in his power to become the first Conservative First Minister of Wales.

He's made his intention clear to boost the standing of the leader's role from being simply leader of the group of Assembly Members to a position similar to that of Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson.

Davies also backed the referendum campaign to remain in the European Union, and signalled his willingness to talk to other parties about coalition deals to take power in Cardiff Bay.

But he will now also have to convince the Brexit-supporting majority of Welsh Tories that they've moved on from their opposition to leaving the EU.
