Wales forward Hal Robson-Kanu has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 29.

With 44 appearances for Wales scoring five goals, the former Arsenal youth player has tweeted a statement following the announcement of the Wales squad to face the Republic of Ireland and Denmark in the Nations League.

Born in London, Robson-Kanu represented England at youth level, before switching to Wales - making his debut at 21-years-old. Playing for Reading at the time, the winger was scouted by then Wales manager Brian Flynn when it was found out that Robson-Kanu's grandmother was born in Caerphilly.

Currently playing for Championship side West Brom, Robson-Kanu made his senior Welsh debut in a 2-0 loss to Croatia, replacing Robert Earnshaw.

Now 29-years-old, the Wales forward has called time on his international career after making 44 appearances and scoring five goals.

Robson-Kanu didn't score as many as the likes of Gareth Bale or Ian Rush, however, there is no doubt he scored when it mattered.

Wales 2-1 Slovakia During the opening match of Euro 2016 in France, Wales were drawing 1-1 with Slovakia following a Bale free-kick and Duda's second-half equaliser. Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey danced his way into the Slovakian penalty box before Robson-Kanu swept home the winner into the bottom corner, just ten minutes from full-time.

Wales 3-1 BelgiumWales had exceeded everyone's expectations by finishing above England to top their group and had beaten Northern Ireland in the first stage of the knockouts. They now faced a strong Belgium team they had previously beaten in the qualifiers.

Radja Nainggolan and Ashley Williams were both on target in the first-half, with both sides locking horns and creating chances. In the 55th minute a long ball up to Ramsey from Bale resulted with a cross into the area. The ball fell at the feet of Robson-Kanu and the rest is Welsh history.

With Wales going on to win the game 3-1, the fact that Robson-Kanu's wonder-goal was voted as Goal of the Tournament made the return home even more sweeter.
