Swimmer dies after being rescued from sea in Swansea

A man has died after being rescued from the sea in Swansea.

Both Mumbles lifeboats and a rescue helicopter were launched on Saturday evening, after Mumbles coastguard were alerted to a missing swimmer last seen near the west pier.

Coastguard officers were joined by officers from South Wales Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service after receiving the call around 9.15pm.

The man was found in the water near The Marriott Hotel, and paramedics were taken from the beach to the all-weather lifeboat to try give immediate first aid.

He was airlifted to Morriston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
