Warm weather brings a touch of magic to our seas!

If you've been anywhere near our seas recently you could be forgiven for wondering what on earth was going on! Bright blues and neon sparkles have been spotted - pure magic! But don't panic... it's nothing other-worldly! It's nature at her finest!

These are actually tiny plankton - bioluminescent plankton, which are reacting to the warm temperature of the water thanks to the prolonged heatwave we've enjoyed recently. It's actually a defence mechanism to ward off predators. It's a rare sight here in Wales as the sea doesn't often get warm enough! Which makes it all the more spectacular!

Alyn Wallace captured this amazing footage of the spectacle at Southerndown in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Thomas captured the sight under the clear skies over Three Cliffs Bay in Gower, and a little further around the Gower coast in Pobbles Steve was able to dip his toes in! Karl was also lucky enough to capture the sight at Dunraven Bay in the Vale of Glamorgan.
