Maerdy mountain fire 'deliberately started' says fire service

A mountain fire which burnt for days was started deliberately, the fire service has said.

Police are now investigating the fire at Maerdy mountain, in Rhondda Cynon Taff, which began on Friday evening.

"The recent fire reported at Maerdy mountain has now been deemed to have been deliberately started and the incident is being investigated by South Wales Police", said a spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire service thanked the local community for their support.
