'NHS saved my life': the young Correg woman living life to the full after receiving bone marrow transplant as a child
Anna Culshaw from Carrog near Corwen was aged just seven when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, called myelodisplkasia.
Without a bone marrow donor, Anna’s parents were told, their daughter would have just months to live.
Throughout 2005, Anna’s parents appealed to the nation for a donor to come forward, including here on ITV. No one in her family could provide a match.
Hundreds of people turned out for sessions to sign up to the bone marrow register in the hope of being able to help Anna.
After months of searching, a donor was found. To this day, Anna doesn’t know who saved her life.
From those who signed up to help Anna, more lives have been saved.
These days Anna spends her time teaching younger children at air cadets - and hopes one day to become a make-up artist.
She and her family say that without the help they received from the NHS, their daughter would not have gone on to enjoy the life she now leads.
