A man was left with horrific leg injuries when he tried to save a group of revellers being mowed down outside a pub in Cardiff.

38-year-old Andy Niinemae ran into the road to tackle the driver in the Whitchurch area of the city.

But Andy's heroic actions left him pinned between two cars when he was rammed by the driver.

The incident happened outside the Miss Jones bar in the early hours of Saturday. Police are still searching for the driver who fled after the attack.

Andy suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to University Hospital of Wales where he needed surgery. He has since been discharged.

Andy's mother Joanne praised a bouncer who ran to help her son after he was injured. She said her son is lucky to be alive.

South Wales Police described the incident as 'shocking' and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
