Cardiff welcomes round-the-world yacht race
The first yachts have arrived overnight into Cardiff, as part of a round the world race. It is the first time Wales has hosted the event.
Team Brunel won Leg 9 of the Volvo Ocean Race, which took the fleet 3300 nautical miles from Newport, Rhode Island in the USA to Cardiff:
Bangor's Bleddyn Mon, is one of the sailor's taking part in the race.
The finish line in Wales represented a homecoming of sorts for Bleddyn, as he grew up sailing in Anglesey.
“This is a day I’ve looked forward to from the beginning of the project,” he said dockside just after finishing. “For me, offshore sailing is quite new and I was in at the deep end with the Volvo Ocean Race… But I’ve learned so much about how to manage myself offshore.”
