The Merthyr Tydfil council Labour group has put forward a motion to provide free sanitary products to schools in order to tackle so called 'period poverty'.

The group wants to follow the lead of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, which plans to hand out free sanitary products to all schools in the area by September.

The motion is led by councillor Chris Barry and deputy leader councillor Darren Roberts.

Rhondda Cynon Taf councillors said they had looked into the work of the charity Wings Cymru, which donates sanitary products to 14 schools in Bridgend.
