New high speed boat launched to patrol fisheries in Wales

A high speed patrol boat has been launched to ensure fisheries and marine laws are enforced in Welsh waters.

Lesley Griffiths, Cabinet Secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs christened the vessel at Conwy Marina.

It's been named FPV Catrin in memory of Catrin Glyndwr, a prominent woman in Welsh history, and the daughter of the last Welsh-born Prince of Wales, Owain Glyndwr.

FPV Catrin will provide a high speed response to ensure Wales continues to enforce fisheries and marine laws. The new vessel will fly the prestigious Welsh Government Marine and Fisheries enforcement flag, made in Swansea.

FPV Catrin is the first new vessel constructed by ship builders Marine Specialised Technology (MST).

FPV Catrin is the first of three new patrol vessels. FPV Rhodri Morgan and FPV Lady Megan are currently under construction in Pembrokeshire and are scheduled to be delivered to Welsh ports later in the year.
