Public warned over litter after duck dies with plastic ring around its head

RSPCA Cymru is issuing a warning of the dangers of litter after a duck was found with a plastic ring stuck around his head and beak.

The hybrid duck, who was spotted at a lake in Abertillery, in south Wales, was so severely injured he was put to sleep.

The animal welfare charity received a call on 6 February by a concerned member of the public who had seen the duck with a plastic ring trapped in his bill and around the back of his head.

The RSPCA said it receives thousands of calls each year due to litter with wildlife being the main victims - especially wild birds.

The charity is urging people to dispose of rubbish responsibly including fishing litter, such as hooks, weights and lines to avoid further harm to wildlife.
