Gambling impacting health in Wales, says Chief Medical Officer
Gambling is becoming a growing public health issue, according to the Chief Medical Officer for Wales.
Dr Frank Atherton has outlined the negative health effects of gambling in an annual report launched today.
In the last 12 months over 60% of adults in Wales gambled according to the report. While it is simply a source of entertainment for many the potential financial difficulty can lead to anxiety, stress and depression.
Dr Atherton is urging the Welsh Government to agree to a plan to reduce gambling-related harm. He is also calling for the UK Government to restrict advertising of gambling products.
