Labour drop inquiry into Carl Sargeant allegations

The Labour Party have formally confirmed they will not be investigating alleged inappropriate behaviour by former Welsh Government minister Carl Sargeant.

Mr Sargeant was found dead four days after being sacked by First Minister Carwyn Jones.

In a letter to the Sargeant family's solicitor, Labour general secretary Iain McNicol wrote said "it is no longer possible to take forward any investigation under our procedures and therefore the Labour Party deems its investigation closed."

"As our initial communication made clear, at no stage did the Labour Party assume or confer any guilt on any individual. The Labour Party will of course co-operate fully with the coroner’s inquest.”
