WRU defends entry searches as delays hit Principality Stadium

The Welsh Rugby Union has defended it’s newly revised entry procedures to the Principality Stadium after thousands of supporters were left stranded outside and forced to miss the opening minutes of Saturday’s Autumn International between Wales and Australia.

New procedures have been brought in for the November tests to improve safety and security at the 74,500 capacity national stadium.

Warnings had been issued in the week regarding the new procedures, which include personal searches, to encourage visitors to arrive early.

The stadium was opened one hour earlier than usual in anticipation of delays.

However many disgruntled supporters were left outside the ground well into the first half as the game started with thousands of seats left empty.
