Sargeant death: Labour MP calls for 'independent investigation' into Welsh Labour's handling of allegations
A frontbench Labour MP has called for an inquiry into how Welsh Labour handled allegations made against Carl Sargeant.
Mr Sargeant was found dead at his home just days after he was sacked from the Welsh Government follows allegations against his his personal conduct.
Labour’s Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities Dawn Butler told BBC 5 live that “it doesn’t sound as though everything that should have happened, happened”, in the way that allegations about Labour AM Carl Sargeant were handled by Welsh Labour.
In an interview with Emma Barnett the Labour frontbencher said that the way that Welsh Labour handled the allegations against Carl Sargeant needed to be “fully investigated”.
Ms Butler also and criticised the media’s role.
Ms Butler has since issued a statement in which she says she is "satisfied that the appropriate process was followed."
