Cardiff praised for playing host to Joshua V Takam fight

It was one of the most talked about dates in the boxing calendar this year - and while Anthony Joshua will be celebrating retaining his titles, there's another unsung winner in yesterday's fight, and that's Cardiff.

Promoter Eddie Hearn praised the city and the Principality Stadium ahead of the fight, calling the 70,000-plus capacity arena a 'perfect fit' for Joshua fights.

The location of the stadium also proved a big hit for fans keen to sample Cardiff's bars and clubs.

It's almost 10 years to the day that Cardiff's then Millennium Stadium staged its last night of big time boxing when 50,000 saw Welsh hero Joe Calzaghe beat Mikkel Kessler is a super-middleweight unification showdown.

Cardiff has proved a hit this time round and will more than likely play host to many more big fights in the future.
