An inquiry is being held on the safety of high rise blocks in Wales after seven tower blocks in Wales failed safety checks following the Grenfell tragedy.

The Equality, Local Government and Communities Committee will hear evidence as part of the one-day inquiry.

The areas to be taken into consideration:

  • What fire safety requirements/measures are currently in place in Welsh high rise blocks?

  • Are there any obvious gaps or weaknesses in the current system of regulation in Wales of fire safety in high rise blocks?

  • Is guidance to residents of high rise blocks in Wales, in the event of a fire, appropriate?

  • How are residents in Wales being informed about recent developments and reassured about fire safety measures in their block, and are resident's views about fire safety being listened to and addressed?

The inquiry comes as four tower blocks in Swansea and three in Newport failed safety checks.

The Grenfell Tower tragedy in London killed least 80 people when a fire tore through the high rise building in June.
