Appeal after dog in 'excruciating' pain found

A dog has been put to sleep after he was found abandoned on Rhigos Mountain, near Aberdare, emaciated and covered in tumours.

RSPCA Cymru are appealing for information after the brindle mastiff was found on Tuesday (12 September).

The dog - nicknamed Winston - was taken to Hope Rescue Centre in Llanharan, but was put to sleep due to the severity of his suffering. He was estimated to be around three to four years old.

Winston was suffering several ruptured tumours weeping with infection, other large tumours, an untreated fractured leg, skin condition and an ear condition. He was blind in one eye, had a swollen abdomen, overgrown nails and was suffering with fleas. He was also extremely thin and malnourished.

Hope Rescue’s head of welfare, Sara Rosser, said this was a truly horrific case.
