Rise in hate crime in Wales following recent terror attacks

There were almost 1,500 incidents of hate crime incidents across Wales in the first six months of this year, figures from ITV Wales reveal.

Information from the four police forces show over a quarter of the incidents happened in the six weeks following the Manchester terror attacks.

Across Wales, England and North Ireland a total of 273 incidents were reported in the two days after the Manchester attacks - up by 50% on the same period a year earlier.

There were similar increases after Westminster and London Bridge, but there was no such rise after the terror attack in Finsbury park in which a white man attacked a group of Muslims.

Gwent Police had the highest number of incidents with a total of 242 - up 48% from the same time the previous year.

One man who has experienced racial abuse is Amor Guerchi., from Rhyl.

He was subjected to a racist rant by a 27-year-old woman after he asked her to leave a bar he was working at.

Sophia Boyd admitted racially-aggravated disorderly behaviour on 8 June, assaulting a policeman and disorderly conduct three days earlier.
