Former Bluebirds captain Mark Hudson announces retirement from football to take up coaching role

Former Bluebirds captain Mark Hudson has announced his retirement from football.

The 35-year-old defender, who is currently Huddersfield's skipper, won his third promotion to the Premier League in May - and will now join the Yorkshire club's coaching staff.

He played nearly 500 games in his career and made over 100 appearances for the Bluebirds.

Cardiff City took to Twitter to 'thank him for the memories'.

In a statement on his Instagram account, Hudson thanked his wife for the support and said he will miss playing and leading his team out, but his 'full attention' is on the next stage of his career.
