The family of a six-year-old boy from Whitland, Carmarthenshire has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to help pay for life-saving treatment.

Morgan Hayes has neuroblastoma - it’s an aggressive form of cancer which can affect the nervous system.

Doctors in Wales have said Morgan’s condition can be stabilised, but his parents are now looking further afield in hope of a cure.

They initially set a target of £100,000 - but health professionals in America have said the figure is likely to be five times that.

Morgan was first diagnosed in February 2015, and went into remission a year later.

But in June of this year, the family got the news they were dreading - Morgan had relapsed, with two new tumours on his spinal cord. Doctors are unsure whether he will regain function in the lower half of his body.

Morgan’s school Ysgol Llys Hywel in Whitland has been a major player in the fundraising, organising a sponsored walk, selling t-shirts and holding bake sales.

Along with donations from friends, families and local businesses, over £20,000 has been raised in the first two weeks.

People in the town have also been donating by buying purple and yellow ribbons, which can be spotted on most cars and houses.

For now Morgan will continue to undergo radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment in Cardiff, but if all goes to plan the family hope to take him to America.
