Davies sets sights on Commonwealth Games after fifth World Para Athletics title
Aled Davies wants to represent Wales in the Commonwealth Games shot put after winning a fifth World Para Athletics Championships title.
The 26-year-old Bridgend-born thrower won the F42 discus at the London Stadium on Sunday, claiming a third straight world title in the event he won at the London 2012 Paralympics.
The discus was removed from the Paralympic programme for Rio, where Davies won the shot put which is now his target for next Saturday and beyond.
Davies, the Welsh champion, reckons the 2022 Commonwealth Games is a more realistic target than next year's on Australia's Gold Coast. The Commonwealth Games features some para-sport events, including in athletics, but not in Davies' classification.
Davies, who was born with Talipese and hemi-hemilia affecting his right leg, has developed a new brace which has improved his throwing.
Davies, who has been training and competing in the United States, reflected on his London 2012 success after winning a third straight discus world title with a championship record throw of 51.54 metres.
Tom Habscheid of Luxembourg was second with 46.83m and Dechko Ovcharov of Bulgaria took bronze with 39.22m.
