Swansea Council says it has been calling for the whole system to be checked not just cladding panels
Swansea Council says cladding systems on its four high-rise block have passed 'whole-system' safety checks.
Earlier this week the council confirmed cladding panels from three blocks in Clyne Court, Sketty, and one in Jeffreys Court, Penlan, had failed tests in the wake of the Grenfell fire disaster.
This afternoon, the council has announced that Building Research Establishment (BRE) experts who are carrying out the Government tests, have tested cladding systems identical to those used in Swansea and they fully comply with building regulations.
The council's deputy leader says they had been asking for 'whole system' tests rather than just the cladding in isolation, for two weeks
The tests examined the resistance of the system as a whole - cladding panels, mineral core, insulation and specialist metal firebreaks. The council says previous tests that its four tower blocks failed, only tested the cladding panels. The system used at Clyne Court and Jeffrey’s Court is not the same as the one used at Grenfell Tower.
Cllr Lloyd said the council is still seeking clarity from the Welsh Government about what was involved in the failed tests and hoped the whole-system tests had reassured residents.
