Swansea tower blocks that failed safety tests 'safe'
Four Swansea tower blocks that failed fire safety tests are 'considered safe', according to Communities Secretary Carl Sargeant.
He said the fire service have inspected the buildings and given them 'a good inspection rating' and that 'residents can feel some comfort about making sure that their homes are considered safe.'
He added the Welsh Government would be looking at whether the advice is to remove and reclad the blocks, or whether to look at other alternatives. He's due to update AMs on the situation later today.
But Swansea Council says it's seeking urgent clarification on what the next steps should be.
The Council has reassured tenants of Clyne Court in Sketty and Jeffreys Court in Penlan that extra safety measures have been taken.
Inspections of blocks with seven stories or more have been the priority since Grenfell.
Carl Sargeant added that 'we have to make sure that we act quickly to make sure that any potential further testing is done with the proper appropriate agencies.'
He also said that the Welsh Government haven't had to compel anyone to volunteer samples of cladding, and that 'they didn't identify any of the Grenfell fire disaster fabric in any of our buildings.'
The Welsh Government are taking advice from experts in the field, and will be looking at risk factors across Wales.
They say there's nothing to suggest the blocks that have failed safety tests are not fit for purpose.
