The Alarm's Mike Peters opens cancer ward after £1.2m makeover
Celebrations have been held to mark the official opening of a newly expanded cancer ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd.
The Alaw Ward has undergone a £1.2m makeover.
Building work on the project began last year, and was funded through charitable support.
It means the number of consultation rooms on the unit has doubled, and the Day Unit's capacity has increased by 40%.
Outpatients also benefit from a new reception and waiting room, while a dedicated area has been created for stem cell patients in the Day Unit.
Former patients and staff were joined by the Alarm's Mike Peters to celebrate the opening and thank fundraisers who were responsible for the expansion of the unit.
One special fundraiser, who was remembered during the ceremony, was Irfon Williams, who lost his battle with cancer last month.
A former nurse and mental health manager, Irfon was treated on the Alaw Unit. He set up #teamirfon and raised over £150,000 to support patients on the unit.
His wife Becky attended the opening of the ward and said her husband never complained, and used his situation to help others.
