Welsh sex offender Gareth Hall 'got what he deserved' say US detectives
Gareth Hall "got what he deserved' according to former Eugene Police Detective Jeff Donaca from Oregon, USA.
The now retired detective has spoken out about their case against the Welshman, who was found guilty of raping a 10 year old girl in Oregon in 2016.
Hall was given a 50 year sentence and now resides in the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution.
On S4C’s true crime series Y Ditectif to be broadcast on Tuesday night, the true extent of Gareth Hall’s offences and the details of how he groomed a 10 year old girl in the US are revealed for the first time.
The 22 year old former Caernarfon lifeguard started his communication via a chat application, pretending to be two teenage girls.
The ITV Cymru Wales programme made for S4C, retraces Gareth Hall’s movements in the US - from Seattle to Eugene in Oregon where he met his victim. He took the girl to various motels in Eugene over 4 days before the girl’s family called the Eugene Police reporting that the 10 year old had been raped.
Eugene Police arrested Gareth Hall in Chicago in May 2015 after police discovered he was flying back to the US for another visit. Police have not been able to confirm his intended destination, but fear he may have targeted others.
Gareth Hall pleaded guilty to four counts of rape, two counts of sodomy and one count of the online sexual corruption of a child and in March 2016 he was given a 50 year jail sentence without parole at Lane County Court.
Gareth Hall declined to be interviewed on the programme and sent a letter to the programme makers explaining that “he wasn’t ready to share his side of the story.”
In tonight’s ‘Y Ditectif’, presenter Mali Harries visits the Eastern Oregon Correctional Facility where Gareth Hall is now serving the 50 year sentence.
Y Ditectif, produced by ITV Cymru Wales for S4C, 9.30pm Tuesday.
