Cervical screening numbers in Wales at ten year low

The number of women in Wales going for cervical screening appointments is at a ten year low - at just 77.8%.

That's according to charity 'Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust'.

Uptake of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which provides protection against 70% of cervical cancers, is also below the national average.

This week the UK's first ever cervical cancer prevention roadshow will arrive in Cardiff.

Cervical cancer is largely preventable, but 52 women in Wales sadly lost their lives to it last year.

Experts say screening can prevent up to 75% of all cervical cancers.
