Borderline personality disorder: 'It was like I never completely grew out of my terrible twos'

Hannah Potts loves expressing herself through art.

She also has borderline personality disorder, a diagnosis which means she experiences extreme emotional moods.

It's something she says stigmatised.

Here's her story.

  • Borderline personality disorder is a serious mental disorder marked by a pattern of ongoing instability in moods, behaviour, self image and functioning.

  • Sometimes symptoms and signs can include having unstable relationships, chronic feelings of emptiness and self harm

  • It's often under diagnosed and misdiagnosed.

  • The causes of BPD are unclear but research suggests there's a link to genetics, environmental and social factors and brain factors.

If you feel you might have the symptoms of borderline personality disorder or would like any help and support, contact your GP or hospital as soon as possible.
