Driver ignored warning from optician months before deadly crash

A driver, who crashed into a motorcyclist killing him, had been warned by an optician to stay off the road because of his eye problems, a court heard today.

Nigel Sweeting, 50, collided with motorcyclist David Evans on Christmas Day in 2015.

A court heard Sweeting was "fully aware" of problems with his field of vision in the months before the crash and he only attended an appointment after the crash on Christmas Day in 2015.

The court also heard that both men had been travelling at around 81mph along the M4 in Newport.

Mr Sweeting then allegedly tried to cover up the damage by painting his car.

Mr Wilson added: "The near-side door and front wing had been recently cleaned."

Mr Sweeting denies death by dangerous driving, death by careless driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The trial continues.
