Champions League trophy to make its way to Cardiff for special procession through city centre

The UEFA Champions League trophy will be making its way to Wales today ahead of the countdown to the final being held in Cardiff this June.

The trophy will arrive at Cardiff Airport later, before being taken on a procession through the city centre.

The trophy will then go on a tour of the country - stopping at a number of schools, clubs and popular locations along the way.

2017 UEFA Champions League Final Ambassador, Ian Rush and First Minister for Wales, Carwyn Jones, will travel to Switzerland today and officially receive the iconic silverware from UEFA, and bring it to Wales, where it will stay until the Champions claim it on June 3.

The Trophy will be welcomed to the city later and paraded publicly as part of a relay from Cardiff Castle to the National Stadium of Wales (Principality Stadium) this afternoon.

Road closures for the UEFA Champions League Trophy Parade:

To facilitate the UEFA Champions League Trophy Parade, there will be road closures in place in the Cardiff City Centre between 4.30pm until 5.30pm.

The parade will start at 4.45pm from Cardiff Castle, and will go down High Street along St Mary Street into Guildhall Place and then into the National Stadium for Wales (Principality Stadium.)

To ensure this event takes place safely the following roads will be closed between 4.30pm until 5.30pm – North Road with the junction with Cathedral Road and Westgate Street from the junction with Park Street. There will be no parking allowed on Guildhall either.

Council traffic officers will be facilitating the road closures for this event.
