Primary schools across Cardiff and the Vale have launched an initiative to make their school gates smoke-free zones.
To mark 'No Smoking Day' Jenner Park Primary School in Barry will be the first to launch the voluntary ban today with all primary schools across the county to follow suit.
Cardiff and the Vale is the tenth local authority to join ASH Wales' campaign to make all primary school gates in Wales smoke-free areas.
Research by ASH Wales found that young people are highly influenced by other smoking around them - those with a parent who smokes are 70 per cent more likely to take up the habit.
