Plaid Cymru AM Neil McEvoy to face tribunal over 'restructure' remark
Plaid Cymru AM Neil McEvoy is set to appear in front of an adjudication panel later.
Mr McEvoy is also a Cardiff councillor and ITV Wales understands the case centres around comments he made to an official regarding restructuring the authority if his party was in power after May's local elections.
The Fairwater councillor faces allegations of three breaches of the council's code of conduct, including bringing the authority into disrepute. Mr McEvoy denies any wrongdoing.
The case was referred to the panel by Nick Bennett the Public Services Ombudsman and on his Facebook page Mr McEvoy has hit out at his handling of the case:
The Panel has a range of powers including suspending or disqualifying members from being or becoming members if found guilty.
Plaid Cymru's Rhun ap Iorwerth AM said these were "Neil McEvoy's personal comments" and did not reflect the view of the wider group. He went on to say it's "not up to me to make comments in relation to that particular matter."
A spokesperson for the Ombudsman said: "Councillor McEvoy’s accusations regarding the process of investigation have been dismissed by the Tribunal. It would not be appropriate to comment further as it may prejudice the tribunal hearing.”
