Swansea school (quietly) celebrating its success with Unicef rights award
A school in Swansea is celebrating winning a top Unicef award, but they are doing it quietly because they banned shouting.
Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwynderw is the first Welsh medium school in Wales to achieve the charity's level two rights respecting school status. The school, in the West Cross area of the city, has a 'no shouting' policy, with teachers using other ways of attracting children's attention like singing.
The school's headteacher Gayle Shenton says the rights respecting schools programme has become part of the school's ethos.
