These pictures show the demolition of the former Oceana building in Swansea

The demolition bill for the former Oceana building in Swansea has rocketed from £1 million to £4.1 million after contractors found "unprecedented" amounts of asbestos.

ITV News has been inside the building as the demolition continues.

Swansea Council hopes the site will be at the heart of ambitious plans to transform the city.

The building was originally built in the 1960s to house a cinema, and changed hands several times over the years.

One AM has called for the Welsh Government to take greater control of the area's redevelopment.

The leader of Swansea Council says the development is still within budget and public safety is paramount

The council leader hopes the redeveloped site will attract tech companies to base themselves in the heart of Swansea's city centre - bringing highly skilled jobs and millions of pounds worth of investment.

One of the proposed designs for another building to go on the site

The council are hoping the city will be successful in its bid for a £1bn city deal - that could help create thousands of jobs and focus on health, energy and ultra-fast broadband infrastructure.
