A video given to ITV Wales appears to show the A+E department of Wales's busiest hospital struggling to cope with the number of patients arriving by ambulance.

Filmed yesterday afternoon, the pictures show 13 ambulances outside the unit.

It's an example of the pressures the NHS expects to face in winter, but winter has barely begun.

At the beginning of the month, the Welsh Government announced an extra £50m would be made available to deal with winter pressures.

It said there would be more beds to cope with more patients and that efforts would be made to move patients through the hospital system as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The Welsh Ambulance Service also launched its National Winter Plan last week.

It detailed how there are more staff and paramedics and new approaches to care for people in the community. It also explains how there are efforts to ensure resources are allocated correctly.

In response the video, Cardiff and Vale University health Board said it apologises for the delays caused.

The Welsh Government says it has been in touch with the health board "a significant spike in the number of patients with complex needs yesterday afternoon".

The Welsh Ambulance Service is urging people to 'Choose Well'.
