Motorists warned using mobile phones whilst driving can have 'serious consequences'
Police and Road Safety Wales have launched a countrywide crackdown on motorists who use mobile phones whilst behind the wheel.
The campaign comes after the numbers of motorists using mobile phones to make calls, texts or social media updates whilst driving has risen. As a result, distracted driving is expected to be the biggest single cause of death and injuries on roads in 2016.
The All Wales enforcement campaign is urging road users to 'keep their eyes on the road' and not be distracted by their mobile phones. Motorists seen using their phones can expect a £100 fine and three points on their licence. While, drivers of buses or goods vehicles could get a maximum fine of £2,500.
More than 500 motorists were caught using their mobile phones whilst behind the wheel during last year’s campaign.
