First Minister Carwyn Jones has called Wales "a fantastic place to train, work and live" at the launch of a new campaign to promote the country to doctors and GPs.
The campaign will be aimed at medical students yet to choose a specialty, as well as trainees coming to the end of their training, to encourage them to continuing living and working in Wales.
It will also appeal to GPs who express an interest in working in the country, including advice on relocating with their families.
In response, British Medical Association (BMA) Cymru say that although they are supportive of the campaign, they argue it is not a stand alone solution to the problem of recruiting and retaining doctors in Wales.
In a recent BMA survey, over 80 per cent of GPs said they worried about the sustainability of their practice.
The organisation have called on a number of solutions, combined with the Welsh Government campaign, including:
A national standard for a maximum number of patients that GPs can see during a working day to deliver a safe and high quality service.
The removal of unnecessary bureaucracy from GP practices.
A full time pharmacist in all practices.
A scheme to encourage retired doctors to stay in the workforce.
