Drivers in the UK made at least one claim every 17 minutes against councils for vehicle damage caused by poor road conditions in the last financial year, according to the RAC Foundation.

In Wales, the percentage of successful claims made against councils for vehicle damage caused by poor road conditions has risen by 16% in the last financial year.

Half of all drivers in Cardiff making claims are successful, with the Council paying out less than £12,000.

The Welsh councils paying out the most for successful claims in 2015/16:

  • Cardiff - £11,952

  • The Vale of Glamorgan - £7,327

  • Swansea - £584

  • Powys - £7,878

  • Neath Port Talbot - £3067
