A stunning strike from Joe Allen and an own goal from Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer ensured Wales left Vienna with a point after drawing 2-2 in their World Cup Qualifying match.

After an frenetic opening few minutes where both keepers were forced into important saves, Stoke City's Joe Allen opened the scoring superbly - rifling home an effort after the ball fell to him just outside the box.

Austria though found an equaliser just minutes later - Allen's club teammate Marko Arnautovic nodding past Wayne Hennessey after being played in by Austria's star man David Alaba.

Seconds before the end of the first half Wales regained the advantage thanks to an own goal from Tottenham's Kevin Wimmer. A long throw in by Gareth Bale was headed towards goal by defender James Chester, before the ball bounced in off the unfortunate defender's legs.

Austria began the second half strongly and pulled Wales back after a defensive mix-up allowed Arnautovic in on goal again - the Stoke City man finishing clinically past Hennessey.

The home side piled on the pressure but couldn't find a winner, as Chris Coleman's side leave the Austrian capital with a creditable point.
