WRU increases investment in Welsh rugby after record turnover
The Welsh Rugby Union has revealed record investments in rugby after an increase in revenue.
The WRU has re-invested £33.1m into the national game, according to its latest annual report.
This record investment is an 11% increase compared to previous year and reflects a growth in revenues for the WRU.
The union has seen turnover increase to £73.3 from £64.8 previously for the year ending June 2016, an increase of 13%.
Investment in community clubs has increased, from £6.8m to £7.9m, as has investment in the Principality Premiership (up 14% to £1.6m) and the Regions (up 12% to 19.3m.)
In addition to an increase in investment in grass roots rugby, they have also reduced their bank debt to £11m from £14.2m.
This left the WRU with a profit after tax of £0.1m.
