What's in a name?: Celtic Manor threatens legal action after small village club renames itself 'Celtic Minor'

Top golf course the Celtic Manor Resort is threatening legal action against a small village club after it changed its name to the 'Celtic Minor'.

The giant Celtic Manor course - which hosted the Ryder Cup and the NATO summit with Barack Obama - wants the small course 53 miles away to be renamed.

The new owner of Palleg Golf Club in the Swansea Valley John Adams decided to retitle the club as the Celtic Minor to attract more members.

But the Celtic Manor Resort has hit back by warning they will protect their name from any "attempt to take advantage of their reputation".

The Club Manager also added: "You put Celtic Manor into Google and there's the Celtic Minor popping up underneath it so there are advantages of having a similar name in this case.

"The club had been established a long time and initially the members didn't want a name change but the response we get from most of them is brilliant."

The green fees to play the Celtic Manor's 2010 Ryder Cup course are £89 compared to Celtic Minor's £12 to £20 a round.

The valley course does not attract spectators to its fairways unlike Celtic Manor when thousands watched golfing greats Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson contest the Ryder Cup won by Europe.
