British Science Festival gets underway at Swansea University
The annual British Science Festival gets underway at Swansea University today.
The four-day event, which has been held every year since 1831, is said to be the longest-established science festival in Europe.
It will bring together scientists from across the country to discuss their work with one another, and with the general public.
This is the festival's fifth visit to Swansea, having previously been hosted by the city in 1848, 1880, 1971 and 1990.
Subjects up for discussion this year include whether rugby tackling should be banned in schools, how to calculate cancer risks and the solutions to the global environmental issue of marine litter.
