Welsh athletes end their time at Rio with record-breaking medal haul
Team GB's Welsh athletes have ended their time at Rio with a record-breaking haul of 10 Olympic medals.
Gold medals came from Cardiff-born cyclist Elinor Barker, in the team pursuit, Penarth's Hannah Mills in the sailing 470, Flintshire's taekwondo-star Jade Jones in the 57kg, and Cardiff's Owain Doull in the cycling team pursuit.
Meanwhile, Abergavenny cyclist Becky James secured two silver medals in both the keiren and the sprint, and 25-year-old swimmer Jazz Carlin, from Swansea, took home two silver medals in both the 400m freestyle and the 800m freestyle.
In the rugby sevens, Wales' James Davies and Sam Cross secured another Olympic silver medal for Team GB after they were beaten by Fiji in the final.
And in the rowing, 28-year-old Victoria Thornley from Wrexham won silver in the double sculls.
“Before the Games we knew the athletes were as well prepared as they have ever been", said chief executive of Sports Wales, Sarah Powell.
It's the best ever performance of Welsh athletes in an Olympic games, surpassing the 7 medals won at London 2012.
