Thousands of Welsh students set to collect A-level exam results

Thousands of students across Wales are set to collect their A-level exam results this morning.

For many students it will be a day of decisions, as they discover whether they have secured a place at university, an apprenticeship or a training scheme.

Last year, A-level students in Wales achieved an overall pass rate of 97.3%, with a record number being awarded A* grades.

However, this was a slight fall in comparison to 2014, when the overall pass rate in Wales was 97.5%.

Schools and colleges will open their doors for results to be collected at various times throughout the morning.

UCAS 'Track', a website which allows students to check on the progress of their university applications, will go live from 08:00.

"I can well remember the nerves and seemingly endless hours, watching the clock until I could open that envelope and find out my grades and weigh up my next options", says Kirsty Williams AM, Wales' Education Secretary.

Sarah Watkins, Student Recruitment Manager at the University of South Wales, says some universities may still accept students on to their desired courses even if they don't achieve the required grades.
