Fall in Welsh students achieving top A level grades
Thousands of students across Wales collected their A level results today, but fewer of our most talented and hard working pupils gained the top grade of an A or an A*.
The overall pass rate for grades A* to E remains high, with 97% of pupils getting a pass and almost 74% achieving A* to C grades.
But the proportion of students getting the top grades is at its lowest in almost a decade.
Earlier today Wales' Education Secretary Kirsty Williams admitted that in some areas, Wales is "not where we want to be".
