Thousands of landlords haven't signed up to Wales' new landlord scheme

By this November every landlord in Wales should have signed up to Rent Smart Wales. It's a Government scheme aimed at improving the quality of homes to let and to try and do something about the minority of bad landlords.

But ITV Wales has discovered with only four months to go, only 13 thousand landlords had signed up by June. It's estimated there could be as many as 130,000 landlords in Wales.

Organisations representing landlords have also raised questions over how effective the registration scheme will be.

Richard Lambert from the National Landlords Association says this new scheme will do little to stop bad landlords.

Ministers have defended the scheme saying they expect the number of Welsh landlords signing up to Rent Smart to increase as November approaches.
