Cardiff Council issues travel advice ahead of Wales' homecoming parade

Cardiff City Council has issued travel information ahead of Wales' Euro 2016 homecoming parade.

Thousands of fans are expected to gather in the Welsh capital to welcome the team home.

Players will travel on an open-top bus through the city from 4pm to 5.30pm, before a planned reception and entertainment at Cardiff City Stadium.

The following roads will be closed from 2.30pm until 5.30pm:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street

  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted via Fitzhamon Embankment)

  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents and traders will be permitted)

  • Saunders Road from its junction with St Mary Street

The following roads will be closed in their entirety:

  • Duke Street

  • Castle Street

  • High Street

  • St Mary Street

  • Caroline Street

  • Wood Street

  • Central square

  • Westgate Street

  • Quay Street

  • Guildhall Place

  • Golate

  • Park Street

  • Havelock Street

  • Scott Road

  • Customhouse Street throughout its length (access to private car parks will be permitted)

  • Penarth Road from its junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading into the rear of the central train station

The following roads will be closed from 4.00pm until 6.00pm:

  • Cowbridge Road East (from Canton Bridge to the junction with Wellington Street)

  • Wellington Street

  • Leckwith Road

The road closure times could be extended depending on the number of people attending the event.

PARKING

Anyone choosing to drive is advised that there will be no public parking at Cardiff City Stadium.

Those who wish to park in Cardiff are advised to park in the Civic Centre (pay and display) or city centre car parks at:

  • North Road car parks

  • St David's shopping centre

  • John Lewis

  • Capitol shopping centre

  • NCP car parks on Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road

TRAINS

There will be a queuing system in place at Cardiff Central train station and there will be a crowd management system at Grangetown and Ninian Park railway stations from 7.30pm.

There will not be additional trains running, but additional carriages will be provided where possible.

Queen Street train station will remain open as usual.

BUSES

Buses will not operate from the usual city centre bus stops.

Buses will be displaced from stops within the closure from 2pm until 6pm and will relocate to either Churchill Way for the east, Greyfriars Road for the north or Tudor Street for the west.
